After a loss last week, the Hewitt-Trussville Huskies got in the win column when they bested the Gardendale Rockets in their first game of the season 39-34.
The Huskies (1-1) trailed after the first series when Zach Cupps on a keeper scored a ten-yard touchdown to make it 7-0.
But the Huskies came back when Zach Thomas threw two long touchdown passes to Noah Igbinoghene for 60 yards and 72 yards.
Hewitt went in at the half leading 21-7. Gardendale came back in the third quarter scoring two times.
Demetrius King scored from 10 yards out to make it 21-14, then Zach Cupps threw a 45-yard pass to Reagan Padgett down to the one.
Then, Cupps scored from five yards out to tie it up at 21. Hewitt kicked a field goal to take back the lead late in the third quarter, then scored a touchdown and a two-point conversion to make it 32-21.
Hewitt’s Jarion Street scored again from eight yards out and the Rockets scored one more time, but it wasn’t enough.
Hewitt evens up their record at 1-1 and Gardendale starts off the season 0-1.
