BESSEMER, AL (WBRC)
Not even Mother Nature could slow down Bessemer City High School Friday night.
The Purple Tigers got a big night throwing the ball from quarterback Kha Darrius Davis to power past Hueytown 34-6.
Early in the second quarter, the game was stopped for about an hour because of lightning. At the time it was a 7-0 game.
After the stoppage Bessemer City scored two more times to lead 20-6 at the half.
It was more of the same in the second half as the Purple tigers won the 73rd meeting between the two schools.
Bessemer City head coach Martez Edwards says he was proud of his team and how they competed.
The quarterback Davis says it was good to have good protection that allowed him to throw the ball effectively.
The Golden Gophers only score came on a 21-yard quarterback scramble from Jaden Steele.
The win leaves Bessemer City at 1-0, while Hueytown slips to 0-1.
