The Wenonah Dragons hosted the Huffman Vikings in their first game of the 2015 season.
The Dragons were looking for revenge after being upset last year. The game was expected to be a defensive battle with two juggernauts on the defensive sides. Wenonah’s defensive lineman Quinnen Williams, an Alabama commit, against Huffman linebacker Terrence Harris.
It was a low scoring game, full of defensive plays from both teams. The first half was sloppy with lots of fumbles and miscues on offense. But Wenonah used a 13-yard field goal by Isaiah Thomas to make it 3-0 Dragons.
Later in the 2nd quarter, Dragons running back Tyler Thornton scored a 10-yard touchdown to make it 10-0 Wenonah at the half.
The score stayed that way all the way until there were two minutes left in the game.
Huffman’s Jacoby Johnson scored a four-yard touchdown to make it 10-6 after a failed PAT. But an exciting thing happened on the ensuing kickoff. Huffman recovers and threatened to score with two minutes left. But on 2nd down, Wenonah’s Armand Green intercepted Pervis Turnbow’s pass to seal the victory for Wenonah.
