BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC) - The Birmingham Fire Department responded a fire at District at the Summit Saturday afternoon.

Battalion Chief Cordell Mardis says the fire has been ruled accidental and it was caused by improperly discarding smoking materials.

It appears firemen contained the blaze to a single building, but the flames likely affected several units. Mardis says 70 percent of the entire structure was damaged.

Multiple units received varying degrees of fire, smoke and water damage.

"Literally when I got out of the car, walking up on the scene, you could feel the heat off the fire. It was ripping and roaring. It was loud. It was falling off into the bushes. I mean, it literally was a crazy ordeal," said Tim Coyle, who witnessed the blaze.

No injuries were reported.
