BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC) - Some of the stories we are following on Good Day Alabama:

Several viewing areas were hit with heavy storms overnight.  Some minor damage to report, but mostly power outages are the story.  As we hit the air at 4:30 a.m., 42,000 customers were still without power. We'll keep you updated.

Sadly, a man in Cullman died when a tree fell on him as he was putting up his lawn mower.

Bad weather caused bigger problems in other southern states.  We'll take a look.

In Bagley, a woman escaped a house fire that witnesses say was started by lightning.  We have a crew live there.

In the Bessemer area, crews worked all night to clear debris after a tree fell across the road on Highway 150 at Lakeshore Drive. The road is reopened this morning, but be careful.

We'll also tell you about a family of four in Birmingham, safe this morning, after a tree fell on their house.
