BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC) -

A military family has inspired a campaign to help the children of the troops deployed overseas.

Robert Nilson, a navy air traffic controller, and his wife Denise found a way for him to stay connected to their little girls while he was away.

He put together a battery-powered teddy bear which plays a loving message from him.

Nilson's invention inspired a new Duracell commercial telling their story.

“I think it's amazing. I really think it portrays what we've gone through well. My daughter actually brought her bear to picture day and they show the little girl bringing her bear on the bus. And believe it or not, we actually have a trampoline that my girls were using with the bears and there's a trampoline in there as well, so it really hit home. It was cool,” Denise Nilson said.

The Nilsons want everyone to support the United Service Organizations’s work of helping military families.
