Good afternoon from the desk of Janet Hall. Here are the stories we're working on for FOX6 News this evening.
Alabama Confederate flag controversy
State lawmaker Alvin Holmes is calling for the Confederate flag to be removed from Alabama's capitol grounds. This comes in the midst of South Carolina's flag controversy following the murders of 9 people at a historically black church. There are also calls to remove the confederate monument in Birmingham's Linn Park. We'll look at the issues and talk to U.S. Attorney Joyce Vance about the continuing battle to fight racism.
Break ins at Old Carraway Hospital
The old Carraway Hospital building on Birmingham's northside is undergoing renovation but neighbors say vagrants and trespassers are seen coming and going. We'll check it out.
Dogs and veterans
Soldiers aren't the only ones suffering the trauma of war long after they return from the battlefield. Military dogs that were sent to battle to search and detect explosives also suffer from PTSD. It turns out these dogs and humans can help heal each other. We'll tell you about a group that's working to match these special buddies.
