Residents salvage belongings after fire and controversial motel hopes for a redo

Greetings from the desk of Jonathan Hardison! I hope you're having a nice evening and here are some of the stories we're working on for you tonight.

Residents salvage belongings after fire

We're getting our first look tonight inside the burned-out Chalet Apartments in Southside Birmingham and you can see firsthand how devastating that blaze was to families who tonight are moving out whatever they can salvage. Christy Hutchings is talking to the folks there tonight about how they had to escape in a matter of seconds and what's left of their lives left behind on FOX6 News at 9.

Homewood motel redo

Also at 9, Erika Gonzalez

is inside a meeting right now in Homewood where the owner of the Econolodge on Oxmoor is showing off/selling neighbors on his plans to completely redo that site with a new conference facility and remodeled, smaller hotel. His plans even call for a new street, but West Homewood folks are wary of all of this and Erika will show you the plans and take the temperature of that neighborhood tonight.

Troubled bar shuts its doors

And Kennedy's Bar in Tuscaloosa

. The bar's owner voluntarily surrendered his business license after the city moved to revoke it. So what's going to happen to that lucrative location and the bar's owners? Josh Gauntt is advancing the story for us tonight on FOX6 News at 10.

Those stories and more beginning at 9 on FOX6 News. I hope you'll watch us on air, online at or in the WBRC News app by clicking "Live Newscasts."
