BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC) -
The UAB administration has yet to make their announcement about bringing back football, rifle and bowling but supporters have good news that might help bring the sports back.

On Friday the UAB Athletic Assessment Task Force announced they have hit the fundraising goal of $22.5 million which is more than a recent report said was need to be raised to reinstate the programs.

The College Sports Solutions report released earlier this week said all three sports could return with a sound financial plan. President Watts terminated the programs because of money issues.

Justin Craft with the task force said the donations - $15 for the three sports programs and $7.5 for an on campus stadium - send a message to Watts and the University of Alabama System Board of Trustees that support is here for the programs. Craft said he and other feared the worst but now he believes football and the other programs will return.

"I'm so optimistic. I've been amazed at the overwhelming support. The pledges continue to come in from $50 to $7.5 million and everywhere in between. It's extremely encouraging seeing the city come together," Craft said.

Craft said the optimism about those programs returning could tip the donations to more than $30 million. Craft said the Birmingham business community getting involved has made a difference.
