BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC) -

No matter what side of the football debate UAB's new Athletics Director Mark Ingram falls on, he's going to have his work cut out for him.

There is no question that Ingram's tenure as UAB's Athletic director will begin in the one of the most turbulent periods of the school's history.

"He's jumped into the Blazer fire right now and we're going to support him," Tim Alexander said.

Former Football player and one the leaders of the Free UAB movement, Alexander is hopeful that Ingram will be more receptive to his group's goals.

"Our number one mission is just to let him know that we understand you are our new AD and you're here for the people. You are for UAB. But we still want him to know that we are still for UAB Football, bowling and rifle," Alexander explained.

"We're looking forward to working with him, with someone that has a vision. That's what we've been missing." Football Foundation member Justin Craft said.

Ingram comes in a few weeks prior to the expected release of the College Sports Solution report - which will determine whether or not President Ray Watts was correct in his original decision to kill the three programs.

If it comes back he wasn't, football foundation member Craft hopes Ingram will see there is only one course for the school.

"Without bringing football back, Conference USA Has been very clear. So we're looking forward to showing the president as well as our new AD that the money is there to reinstate these programs," Craft said.

Ingram comes to UAB From Temple University, where he was a senior associate AD. He was picked by a 19 member search committee that consisted of everyone from faculty, students, and alumni.

University President Ray Iatts issued a statement late Friday night saying Ingram has great energy and strong desire to be at UAB.
