BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC) -

Former Secretary of State Dr. Condoleezza Rice is coming to Birmingham to play in the Regions Charity Classic, but she'll also be imparting words of wisdom to students on Monday, May 11. 

Dr. Rice will share advice on public speaking in an event with seniors from the Woodlawn High School Academy of Business and Finance called "The Power of Public Speaking - Young Voices, Promising Futures."

She's expected to talk to students about the importance of public speaking and reflect on the role of public speaking throughout her career.

Regions Bank is hosting the event, which kicks off at 9 a.m. at the Regions Center.

Dr. Rice will also join in the A.G. Gaston Boys & Girls Club Celebration.

“We are thrilled to have Dr. Rice, a Birmingham native and a longtime supporter of the A.G. Gaston Boys & Girls Club, join us for this very special event,” said Mark Crosswhite, Alabama Power Chairman, President and CEO.

Crosswhite is co-chairing the luncheon with Dr. Rice, according to a press release from Alabama Power.

Dr. Rice currently serves as the Denning Professor in Global Business and the Economy at the Stanford Graduate School of Business; the Thomas and Barbara Stephenson Senior Fellow on Public Policy at the Hoover Institution; and a professor of Political Science at Stanford University.

From 2005 to 2009, Dr. Rice served as the 66th Secretary of State of the United States, the second woman and first African-American woman to hold the post. Rice also served as Assistant to the President for National Security Affairs (National Security Advisor) from January 2001 to 2005, the first woman to hold the position.

Since 2013, Rice also has served on the College Football Playoff Committee, formerly the Bowl Championship Series (BCS).
