Troopers say speed caused I-59 back-to-back wrecks and Tuscaloosa welcomes Avery Johnson

Good evening from the desk of Jonathan Hardison! I hope you're having a nice evening. Here are some of the stories we're working on for tonight:

Trooper ride along

Our roads were a lot calmer this afternoon, thankfully no more 24-car pileups like yesterday on I-59. We learned from Alabama State Troopers that speed was a factor in the two I-59 crashes so tonight we put reporter Christy Hutchings inside a state patrol car to get a look at what they're seeing on our highways and how quickly one mistake can be multiplied when speeding is involved.

There's a new coach in town

He's telling Bama basketball fans to "buckle up." Avery Johnson is in Tuscaloosa and tonight we'll hear from excited Bama fans as Johnson prepares to step in front of cameras on Wednesday.

Congressman visits FOX6

And I got the chance to talk one-on-one with Congressman Gary Palmer today and tonight we'll focus on the issues of those controversial religious freedom laws and why he says this controversy is an assault on Christianity, and why he supports the effort to reform Alabama's prison system but thinks the state could and should go farther.

Catch it first on FOX6 News at 9 and watch it later on MyFoxAl.com or in the WBRC News app.
