Homicide investigation underway after man found shot in head in Birmingham

BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC) -

Birmingham Police are investigating a homicide after a man was found dead after a shooting Saturday morning.

Lieutenant Scott Thurmond said Birmingham Police were called to the 7900 block of Rugby Avenue around 7:45 a.m. after a man was found unresponsive in the front yard of a residence.

Upon arrival, police found a white male who had suffered a gunshot wound to the head. Birmingham Fire and Rescue pronounced him dead at the scene. He will be identified after his immediate family is notified.

Thurmond says the male appeared to be around 20 years old. More information will be released about the victim's death after the autopsy is conducted.

Around 10 a.m., police said they recovered what appears to be the victim's vehicle parked and abandoned behind the Campus Manor Apartments in Birmingham.
