BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC) -

Birmingham police are investigating a homicide after a triple shooting left a 14-year-old girl dead and at least two others injured on Friday evening.

On Saturday, Birmingham police Lt. Sean Edwards identified the victim as Kierra'onna Rice.

Police responded to a report of a person shot in a park in the 900 block of Washington Avenue Southwest around 6:15 p.m. Friday.

When officers got to the scene, they learned that the victim had been taken to Baptist Princeton Medical Center with a life-threatening injury. Rice later died from her injuries at the hospital.

Two other victims were taken to UAB Hospital. Their conditions are unknown.

Investigators learned that the incident started with a quarrel among several girls on Facebook. Police said that a group of teens wanted to record themselves fighting to post the video on social media.

After the fight started, police say two black males, ages 17 and 19, pulled out their guns and began firing at the girls. Witnesses identified the suspects as the shooters and they were taken into custody.

Birmingham police said they believe one of the suspects was dating one of the girls who was fighting with Rice.

Lt. Edwards says several of the girls, including the victim, agreed to meet at a the park and fight.

Police are still trying to understand what happened.
