From the UAB Athletics Department:
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The UAB football team has passed the midway point of game week with the continuation of practice on Wednesday afternoon at the UAB Practice Fields.
Head coach Bill Clark said that it's at this point of the week that the players start becoming more mentally focused and ease up on the physicality on the field.
"For us, defensively, we're always trying to lock up," head coach Bill Clark said after Wednesday's two-hour workout. "But, we're starting to back off from the physicality and the mental aspect should pick up a lot."
The Blazers went back to shells for Wednesday's session and will hit the fields one last time on Thursday to await the season opener with Troy on Saturday.
"You're trying to get the special teams where they need to be, get the bodies back right and make sure you've covered all of your bases going into Saturday," Clark said. "I know what I think this team is going to put out there, a great effort and hard work and obviously Troy is going to bring a good team in here. So, all I know is what I can talk about with us and I think this group is going to represent us very well."
The Blazers kick off the 2014 season against Troy this Saturday, Aug. 30 at Legion Field. Game time is set for 11 a.m. CT. Ticket information for the squad's six home contests can be found at UABsports.com or by calling the UAB ticket office at 205-975-8221.
