PHOENIX (CBS5/AP) -

Convicted murderer Jodi Arias, recently granted the opportunity to represent herself in the penalty phase of her trial, will appear before a Maricopa County Superior Court judge and attorneys from both sides on Sept. 15 to discuss how her trial will move forward.

That 8:15 a.m. case management conference with Judge Sherry Stephens will precede oral arguments on a motion to allow the media access during jury selection and the rest of the trial.

A closed hearing was also scheduled for Wednesday.

Stephens on Aug. 20 granted a request by Arias to have the penalty phase of her retrial continued until Sept. 29.

Jury selection is scheduled to begin that day.

Arias briefly addressed the judge Aug. 20 before the courtroom was closed to the media.

Arias was convicted of murder last year in the 2008 killing of her ex-boyfriend, Travis Alexander, but jurors couldn't decide on a sentence. A second penalty phase was set with a new jury as prosecutors try again for a death sentence.

Arias plans to represent herself after the judge recently denied a motion from one of her attorneys to quit the case.

Arias and attorney Kirk Nurmi have frequently clashed. He has tried to quit several times, while Arias has tried to fire him. The judge has repeatedly denied those requests.
