MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) -

The Montgomery City Council passed a new pet ordinance Tuesday night that includes an increased fee for pet owners whose dogs bite someone. The fee is going from $10 to $100.

The ordinance also addresses how many pets a person can own, though that portion of the ordinance is in discussion and no set limit has been established. Some residents don't like that idea, but one councilman calls it a step in the right direction.

"I think this is a good opportunity for us to start working together. says Councilman for District 6 John Dow. "We understand this is not and end all session this is the beginning it is a good working document that we can proceed from and we will look into more to it as a community voices more concern."

The vote Tuesday night was nearly unanimous with only one councilman choosing not to vote on the measure.
