Vikings relying on strength up front

VALDOSTA, GA (WALB) - Fresh off a state quarterfinal appearance in 2013, the Lowndes Vikings hope to make a run at a sixth state title. As is usually the case at Lowndes, several former stars are gone to the college ranks, including Dyshon Sims and Tre Jackson.

Head coach Randy Mcpherson says his team must get better in all spots and points to youth at defensive back and running back as concerns.

What helps alleviate those worries a bit for Coach Mac are strong offensive and defensive lines.

McPherson says if you had to choose where your team is strong, up front is where he'd start.

"I like the offensive line. I like the way they work. They work really hard. They're a tight knit group," McPherson says. "I like the defensive front seven. They're playing well together. They're physical. And that's where the game of football starts I think."

Lowndes opens the season Friday night at Martin Stadium when they host AAAAAA rival Roswell.
