MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) -

The Montgomery Area Chamber of Commerce hosted an IT forum for local businesses Tuesday.

The forum featured speakers and presentations focused on the latest technology. Speakers discussed how businesses can overcome cyber attacks and how to catch hackers.

"The first thing they do wrong as far as a business is they go in and they start trying to delete files alter the evidence not intentionally to alter the evidence but in order to stop the attack or mitigate the attack," said Mike Trotter, chief investigator for the Alabama Office of Prosecution Services. "A lot of the steps they take to unplug from the network basically destroys evidence that law enforcement needs ultimately to trace the attack back to the offender."

Because the IT environment is changing so often, the Montgomery Chamber plans to hold a forum every quarter.
