The cost of raising a child is increasing. In fact, according to a new government report released this week, the average cost to raise a child born in 2013 is nearly $250,000.

But there's a little bit of good news for parents raising children in Montgomery.

NerdWallet and Business Insider partnered up to find the 100 best U.S. cities for working parents, and Montgomery came in at #28.

The rankings took into account cost of living, cost of child care, quality of education and the percentage of households with children. Each category was weighted as 25 percent of the overall score.

Montgomery ranked in the top 10 for cost of living with median monthly homeowner costs at $1,142. Montgomery also has some of the lowest child care costs at an average of $5,467 annually for an infant.

Montgomery received a 4 out of 10 rating for quality of schools.

The final category took into account whether parents would have a community of other parents around them. Sixty-three percent of households in Montgomery have children.

Birmingham is the only other Alabama city on the list. It is ranked at #57.
