Devils aim for state playoffs

It's year three for John Reid with the Blue Devils, and they know it's time to make a move.

Tift is coming off a 5-5 season in 2013, their fifth straight at .500 or below.

Reid believes it's time to change that.

He says the Blue Devils have bought into the system and he's seeing results.
But he knows it's time for those results to show on the field, and that means the Devils need to make it out of the always difficult Region 1-AAAAAA.

"We're going to talk about things like 'Win the down,' and 'Play every game better,' and so forth. You know, we want to make the playoffs," Reid says. "From there, the sky's the limit. If you can make it to the playoffs in this region, you can maybe make a run. For us, we just want to play great football, stay together, and make a run for the playoffs."

Reid says he feels the program is moving in the right direction.

"It took a little while. It took longer than some other places that I've been at to instill and install everything. But the kids understand. They know what it takes. We're maintaining our numbers. We have a lot of kids on varsity," he says. "We try to make it an exciting atmosphere. We come down through the tunnels. We blow smoke before the game. We've got Harleys riding the kids out. So we want to make it a deal where young kids want to play for us."

The Blue Devils open the 2014 season Friday night when they host Henry County. Tift's first four games will be at Brodie Field.
