Two people are being treated at an area hospital after the vehicle they were riding in was shot at and subsequently crashed Sunday in Geneva County. Investigators are now trying to figure out who fired the shots and why.
The investigation started after a woman called the Slocomb Police Department from a home on Cotton Box Road saying she was involved in a vehicle crash because someone tried to shoot at her and her passenger.
When officers arrived, they confirmed one of the vehicle's passengers, a male, was in fact shot multiple times. Both the male and female were also injured as a result of the crash.
Police Chief Don White asked for assistance from the Alabama Bureau of Investigation and other agencies including the Geneva County Sheriff's Department, Alabama Department of Public Safety and, the Holmes Correctional Institution and Houston County Sheriff's Department's K-9 tracking teams also assisted.
The investigation is ongoing. No suspects have been identified.
