BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC) -

Birmingham police are searching for the driver who struck and killed a mother of three.

Officers say Angela Marie McCall died early on Thursday morning after a driver jumped a curb and struck her as she walked along a sidewalk in the 9500 block of Parkway East.

Police say the suspect removed the license plate from the vehicle, a black Grand Prix, and then fled the scene. Pieces of the vehicle were left at the location.

Her family said McCall was concerned about her nephew and went for a walk to clear her mind.

"She was very concerned about my baby and started walking and that happened to her," Ashley Horton said.

"We are trying to cope. It's very hard, knowing my daughter is gone and not coming back. But I know she is in a better place now but I miss her dearly," Cynthia Green, McCall's mother, said.

McCall's fiance said she called him just moments before she was killed, asking him to pick her up. He said he arrived at the accident scene but he did not realize that the body covered by police was the woman he loved.

McCall's mother and sister said they will take care of her three children.

They just hope that the driver will turn him or herself in to police.

Anyone with information is urged to call Birmingham police at

The family is seeking financial help to pay for the funeral and anything left over will go to McCall's children. Anyone interested in helping should reach out to the family on McCall's Facebook profile.

A candlelight vigil will be held at the site of the accident on Saturday, August 16 at 9 p.m.
