FOX6 News is On Your Side, along with AARP Alabama, and we want to help protect you and your family from identity theft.
We'll be hosting a shred-a-thon effort at multiple locations. This is your chance to bring old documents for us to shred for you. The best part - it's a free service!
September 24 - Birmingham - 1st Avenue S from 14th Street S to 16th Street S (across from Railroad Park - enter on 16th Street side) between 7 a.m. and 1 p.m.
In addition to this great chance to shred some old tax forms and private papers, you'll get the chance to meet some of the people you watch each day on FOX6. We look forward to bringing this free service to our viewers!
We have already shredded over 10,000 pounds today. That brings us to approximately 100,000 pounds of shredded material at all the locations so far.
AN IMPORTANT NOTE: Please limit up to three garbage bags per person and please don't include 3-ring binders, spiral binders, or any plastic, metal, or household trash.
We're also asking folks coming out to consider bringing non-perishable food donations that will go to the local food banks in each city we'll be visiting.
Visit FTC.gov/idtheft for tips on how to report and prevent identity theft.
You can also visit AARP.org/FraudWatchNetwork for more details about spotting scams, avoiding credit card fraud and more.
And thanks go out to the shredding companies assisting us - Watchdog Document Services and Secure Destruction Services.
