(CNN) – House Republican leaders are scaling back their border control bill.
The new version includes $659 million to address the youth immigration crisis with humanitarian aid and beefed-up border security.
The amount is significantly less than the $1 billion price tag that was being considered last week.
President Barack Obama is seeking over $3 billion to fix the problem. Some Republicans are concerned the bill opens the door for amnesty.
Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-NV, says the Democratic-controlled Senate is interested in broader immigration reform.
House Speaker John Boehner says such a bill will not make it through the GOP-dominated house.
The impasses may mean nothing gets done soon.
Congress is taking a break at the end of this week.
