Sister says man accused of burning death has history of mental illness

HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF) -
The Jefferson County Sheriff's office confirmed the woman Michael Kennedy allegedly set on fire died from her burns early Tuesday morning.
The sheriff’s office said the case has now become a murder investigation and detectives will seek to charge Kennedy with Capital Murder.
Kennedy’s sister, a Huntsville resident, said he has a long history with mental illness and drug abuse. Carla Kennedy said Michael has been institutionalized in Huntsville on more than one occasion, as well as in Birmingham.
Kennedy has also been arrested for first degree robbery, but he was found not guilty for reason of insanity. Kennedy remains in the Jefferson County Jail on a $600,000 bond.
