ASHLAND CITY, TN (WSMV) -

From the time it was dark until the sun came up, firefighters poured water on an Ashland City restaurant.

The fire at The V Tavern on River Road started around 4:30 a.m. Friday.

Fire officials say the blaze started in the restaurant and spread to two attached apartments and one adjacent home in the back of the business.

Kenneth Dixon woke up to the sound of first responders at his front door.

"They made sure we all got taken care of. I can't give them enough credit," he said.

Investigators are still working to figure out what started the blaze, and firefighters will be monitoring to make sure the flames don't rekindle.

"It could have been a lot worse with all of us asleep like we were," Dixon said.

No one was hurt in the fire, but the victims are faced with starting over, some without any belongings or a place to rest their heads.

"That whole thing there is gone. Nobody's got nothing there. I lucked out; all I got's a little water damage, some smoke damage, some broken glass. No place to sleep tonight, but that's minimum," Dixon said.

The Red Cross is helping the families who were affected find a place to stay.
