A 21-year-old man has been charged in the shooting of his younger brother, which investigators at first said appeared to be accidental.
A 16-year-old male was treated at DCH on July 15 for a gunshot wound to his abdomen after he was shot at his home on Hillcrest School Road.
The teen's 21-year-old brother brought him to the hospital and told authorities that the gun went off after his younger brother got it from his car.
Investigators later determined the 21-year-old actually fired the shot that hit the younger brother, but said it appeared to be accidental.
On Wednesday, the Tuscaloosa County Sheriff's Office determined that the brother, identified as Jalen Burns, was "handling a firearm in a reckless manor," which led to his brother being shot.
Burns has been arrested for second degree domestic violence assault. He was booked into the Tuscaloosa County Jail on a $10,000 bond.
