BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC) -

This week Birmingham showed off the best parts of the Magic City to show Democratic National Convention committee where they should hold the 2016 convention.

Part of Monday's show and tell happened at the theatre district of Birmingham where people lined up to welcome the DNC committee as they rolled through.

The motorcade of DNC committee members and city officials parked along 3rd Avenue and shut down the street for about 10 minutes.

Birmingham Mayor William Bell talked to committee members about the historical significance of the theatre district. He also threw in a personal touch. Bell pointed out that years ago, he would not have been allowed inside the Alabama Theatre because of the color of his skin.

The DNC committee and team of city officials were surrounded by a crowd of locals, who were strategically invited to the theatre district on Monday night for the DNC committee visit.

There was a big push on social media led by the group Instagram Bham inviting locals to an open house at the theaters and to be a part of a group shot.

Organizers for the meet-up were very happy with the turn out.

"I thought it went beautifully. The crowd was very excited. They spontaneously started chanting 'D-N-C!' which we were thrilled about. It was a great turn out. I think it is just one more piece of this that makes us all really hopeful for the city to actually get the DNC," explained Glenny Brock with the Lyric and Alabama Theaters.
