BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC) - Saturday
morning a local nonprofit group gave a much needed helping hand to
single moms in Birmingham. Janice Ward is a proud member of the team
who helped organize
the Single Mothers Empowerment Conference.

conference is aimed at giving single mothers a break to reenergize and
to share information about help that's available to them. Ward says

available for single mothers and them actually getting them. So they can
talk to them about
how to get the assistance they need and how to not be afraid."
Ward speaks from experience. She raised her son on her own.

very overwhelming and you really do need someone to reach out to."
understands the challenges single mom's face every day. Saturday's
conference is meant to be a reminder that they are not alone.
feel an obligation really to be whatever vehicle I can to other single
mothers to help them walk through the single parenthood like I did,"
conference was held at The Bridge at the Faith Chapel Christian Center.
It was the groups first conference and there are plans to hold another
in the future.
