BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC) -

FOX6 News sat down on Friday with the winners of the Birmingham-area Fix It and Finish It renovation contest.

Ask Mallory Anderton how she first discovered the home she and her husband Eric now live in and she'll candidly tell you.

"The house really found us," she explains. When they were looking she diligently searched the listings everyday hoping to find that perfect match.

"And then this house came out and I said, ‘I don't care where it is, I'm ready to go. I want to buy it'," she recalls.

Eric agrees the mid century two story home in the Huffman community was just what they both wanted.

"It's spacious, a big living room where we can have people over which is what we like, friends over hanging out."

In the seven months they've live in the house, they've done a few projects. But the biggest one, renovating the sun deck, was hard to tackle because of their busy schedules.

So when they learned about the new Raycom television show Fix It and Finish it, they applied, went through the application process and sure enough Friday morning crews arrived.

"We're freaking out and thinking are they coming are they not. And then when they showed up we were like, ‘Yes'," Mallory says, pumping he fists in the air.

It was the show's host, Antonio Sabato, Jr. that knocked on the door to tell them their home had been selected. Crews then began to get to work.

"We're doing a lot of flooring, plumbing, electrical," Sabato, Jr. explains. "This is astronomical. We're doing 150 shows in 12 months and the project has to be started and finished in one day."

Most of those projects would normally take weeks if not months to finish. Sabato says the materials, builders, designers all come from the local city where the show is filming and the end goal he says, is simple.

"It's to give them exactly what they want and need and to bless them,"

The Andertons say that goal has been accomplished.

"It's going to be really cool, amazing, life changing," they say.

Show producers don't know yet when the episode featuring the Anderton's home will air yet. But Fix It and Finish it premiers in September, a new episode every day.
