JEFFERSON COUNTY, AL (WBRC) -

A Clay-Chalkville area woman is trying to help her extended family after a relative was killed in a fire saving her three sons.

The fire broke out at 4 a.m. on Monday morning in Greensboro. Authorities says Melissa Rabon died after getting her three sons safely from the home.

Melissa's mother told Fox6 News that she was a loving woman and that she was shocked by her daughter's sudden death.

"To find out your daughter died like that and she was so young. She just had a birthday on the ninth of July, turned 29," Mentha Rabon said.

Sonya Lewis is a distant relative who lives in Clay-Chalkville.

"We grew up in Greensboro, my hometown. We've known each other since childhood," Lewis said.

Lewis says her heart is breaking but others in the Birmingham area want to do something to help ease the pain of the three boys who are two, seven and 12.

"People up here want to donate to the family. So I want to do take everything I can from people who wan tot donate her because we don't have anything set up," Lewis said.

Lewis hoped to take some relief supplies down Greensboro on Saturday, the same day Rabon will be laid to rest.

Lewis is a Zumba instructor and hopes to hold a dance fundraiser, "Dance Madness for the Boys," where anyone in the Birmingham community can come together to offer help.

"What we want to do is get donations for the kids. Get school clothes, shoes, schools supplies, funds and help the family, you know get back on their feet," Lewis said.

Lewis wants everyone to keep the family in their prayers. If anyone is interested in helping you can contact Lewis at 205-370-1644.

Northport Fire Rescue has also been accepting donations and posted the following sizes for the boys on their Facebook page:

-2 year old (size 2-3T and 7.5 shoe)
