At 7pm TCR All Stars face long time rivals - the Dixie Derby Girls from Huntsville, AL. Tickets are $15 at the door or $10 online. All home bouts are played at Zamora Shrine Temple located at 3521 Ratliff Rd Birmingham, AL 35210. This is a family friendly event, with kids 8 and under getting in for free, so bring the whole gang! And don't forget to bring donations for the Sally Slaughter Charity Drive benefiting the A.skate Foundation. For tickets or more information, visit http://tragiccityrollers.com.
GARY PALMER WINS - Gary Palmer and his team celebrate a big win this morning. Palmer beat out out opponent Paul DeMarco last night in the runoff race for the 6th District Congressional seat. Some considered Palmer to be an underdog in the race. But Palmer says he believes he won because people are hungry for a message that makes sense and for someone they can trust. During his victory speech last night he thanked God, his team, volunteers and his family. He told his supporters his priority is to get the country back on track. His battle for the Sixth Congressional District seat isn't over though. Plamer now faces Democratic candidate Avery Vise and Libertarian Aimee Love in November's general election. Rep. Spencer Bachus has held that seat for years. He served multiple terms but announced in the last year that he would not seek re-election so that he can spend more time with his family.
ZOO CREW - Mickey visits with Travis Coty from the Birmingham Zoo to learn more about the lions. For more information, visit birminghamzoo.com.
ASK THE DOCTOR - Dr. Peily Soong from Children's Hospital discussed how you can get your kids ready to go back to school in just a few weeks! He suggests readjusting their wake, sleep, and eating schedules about 1-2 weeks before school begins. He also warns that you anticipate anxious children who are starting school for the first time or going to new schools. He also suggests you limit TV/computer time as school starts back. Dr. Soong also took viewer questions about childrens' health issues. For more information, visit www.ChildrensAL.org.
