KSLA News 12 Guest Editorial: July 7th-House for Hope

Hi I'm Jimmy Graves, Director of Development for Community Renewal International. Last week, the 2014 House for Hope campaign was capped off by a beautiful new house being given away to one excited winner, Sabra Collier.

She was absolutely blown away when she got the call and even thought it was her husband playing a joke on her. Well it was no joke!  The Collier family actually won a brand new house.

Thank you to those of you who purchased a ticket for the house raffle. Thank you to each partner in the House for Hope project - the Home Builders Association, Vintage Construction, Provenance Development, KSLA News 12, and every donor, vendor and supplier who made this year's House for Hope possible.  Every ticket purchased and every effort given in this project is making a difference right here in our own community.

A new Community Renewal Friendship House will be built with the proceeds and the lives of many disadvantaged children and youth in the Highland neighborhood will be impacted by the love, the hope and the many programs offered at the new Friendship House.

So to each of you who participated in this year's House for Hope project, thanks for your support, thanks for making a difference because indeed you are!

I hope we are all teaching our kids to be respectful of others, to hold doors open, to say please, thank you, yes ma'am and yes sir. We don't need to expect anything in return, just be proud that you were brought up right.I hope we are all teaching our kids to be respectful of others, to hold doors open, to say please, thank you, yes ma'am and yes sir. We don't need to expect anything in return, just be proud that you were brought up right.

There may be no clear right way or a wrong way to handle a school shooting. At least in Maryland, where an armed school resource officer did his job, is an example of a better way, says Joe Sciortino, vice president and general manager of KSLA News 12.There may be no clear right way or a wrong way to handle a school shooting. Once again, we have a school shooting. This time, in Maryland, an armed school resource officer did his job. He jumped into action and engaged the shooter, who died at the scene. ... I would hope the number of armed school officers is growing.
