MARIETTA, GA (WBRC) -

Family and friends cried, laughed and praised God for the life of former Auburn football star Philip Lutzenkirchen in a memorial service on Wednesday night.

The service was held in Marietta, Georgia at Lutzenkirchen's alma mater, Lassiter High School.

Auburn Director of Athletics Jay Jacobs and head football coach Gus Malzahn were among the speakers.

They all spoke about Lutzenkirchen's moves on the field but the real focus was on his character.

His high school and college coaches all said he was a very special young man who had a smile that would just light up a room.

Those who knew him said Lutzenkirchen used his influence as an Auburn football player to make an impact on his community.

Former teammate Zach Etheridge described Lutzenkirchen as a "true Auburn man."

"He was genuine person with a lot of integrity. Carried himself high just a great person overall. There are so many things you can say about him, but his integrity- That's what you remember the most," Etheridge said.

A public visitation and funeral Mass will be held on Thursday at 10:30 a.m. at Transfiguration Catholic Church in Marietta.

Lutzenkirchen, 23, and Georgia athlete Joseph Ian Davis, also 23, were killed on Sunday in a car crash. Two other passengers were injured in the wreck.

Toxicology reports are pending for both Davis and Lutzenkirchen.

Authorities say Davis was going 55 miles per hour when he went through a stop sign and overturned.

Only one of the two passengers who survived was wearing a seatbelt.

A very humid air mass remains parked over Alabama Wednesday night and this will lead to some more patchy fog for the start of the day Thursday. I do think we will see a better coverage of scattered storms.
