A Hoover woman's murder is shining light on domestic violence and what can be done to stop it.

Hoover police said Rashon Epps was murdered by her husband, Brian Darnell Epps, early Saturday morning. The woman called 911 but when police arrived they found her lying in a parking lot with a bullet wound to her head.

Neighbors told FOX6 News that they saw the couple fighting hours earlier in the evening. They said they wish they had called police then because this entire tragedy might have been prevented.

National statistics show one in four women will be a victim at some point in their lifetime.

Experts say it doesn't have to be that way, and if you even suspect a loved one, friend, or neighbor might be victim contact authorities immediately.

"If you feel like something could be happening but you're not necessarily witnessing something you can call them and explain the situation. They may be able just to drive by the residence and do some fact finding," said Erin Bodden, Executive Director of the SafeHouse of Shelby County.

Advocates say that if you are in imminent danger, you should call 9-1-1.
