Hoover police are cracking down on anyone breaking the rules of the road. This new effort comes after several fatal accidents recently.

Drivers on I-459 near I-65 have probably seen signs warning drivers of a zero tolerance policy that is now in effect. Police say they are looking to crack down on speeding, recklessness, and aggressive driving.

"A lot of this will be an educational effort. Obviously, if someone needs a ticket because of extremely aggressive driving, they'll get a ticket. We're enforcing existing Alabama law and we want the public to take notice that in Hoover, we do enforce the law," Hoover Police Captain Jim Coker said.

Coker said that on Sunday, officers issued 82 warnings and 18 citations on that stretch of I-459.

There will be plenty of people on the roads this weekend for the Fourth of July holiday. Please make sure you slow down during your travels.

Reporter John Huddleston will have more on Hoover's efforts to make the roads safer during FOX6 News at 10. You can watch on air, online at FoxAlabamaLive.com or through the WBRC News app.
