MPD arrest man for allegedly hitting, robbing woman outside Whole Foods

MOUNTAIN BROOK, AL (WBRC) -

A Brighton man is custody, accused of hitting a woman in the face and knocking her to the ground during a robbery outside Whole Foods grocery story Monday night.

Mountain Brook Police said two women were putting groceries in their car when a man hit one of the women and took off with her purse.

A Mountain Brook officer was in the area and heard the commotion. The officer was able to locate the suspect and arrest him.

The 20-year-old man is being held in the Mountain Brook City Jail awaiting charges.

The victim's purse was found this morning in the woods by officers who went back to the scene.

The victim was taken to the hospital for injuries to her face and arm.

The store manager at Whole Foods declined to comment on the incident.
