More Sinclair, more FC Tucson wins

TUCSON, AZ -

At the end of this week FC Tucson Head Coach Rick Schantz was happy with the intensity of training sessions.

Following FC Tucson's 2-0 win over Las Vegas, he admitted that the staff may have pushed the players a little too hard.

"I felt we weren't very sharp," Schantz said. "It looked like we were a little fatigued and they're going to have a few days off here and I expect them to get their legs back underneath them."

Schantz said he was happy with the team's organization on the pitch. The team's defensive work rate led to the first goal of the match.

Forward Vance Rookwood came up from behind the Mobster's player with the ball, dispossessing him about 30 yards from the net. Rookwood quickly found Ricardo Velazco, who turned toward the net and slid a pass to Odaine Sinclair who was sprinting down the left side of the field.

On his first touch, Sinclair smashed the ball past the goalkeeper.

"(This match) showed that we put in work and even though we are not at our best we still get the reward and that's always good because you always want to be winning," Sinclair said. "We weren't at our best but we pulled it off and that's what we want to keep doing."

Added Connor Brandt: "I think today we just kind of grinded it out. Unfortunately, we didn't really play up to our potential today. It kind of seemed lackluster, but it's good to get the win. Sometimes you gotta win ugly and that's what we did today."

Sinclair added a second goal in the 69th minute in an otherwise uneventful second half.

FC Tucson extends its league unbeaten streak to eight matches. The club record is ten matches, set in 2012. The club also notched its fifth league shutout of the season.

"We're a good team," Schantz said. "There's good talent. They work hard together and we just know that they can be so spectacular. And we talk about national championships, not division championships."
