HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF) -

Last Tuesday's primary election is almost official.

Election officials around the state cracked open absentee and provisional ballots Tuesday.

In Madison County, none of those ballots would change the outcome of any races, but once the extra votes are counted, the election will be officially over.

Turnout for the primary election was just under 14 percent, the lowest rate since 2000.

"I really think it's important for people to get out there and vote; this should really be a wake-up-call for people," said Clete Wetli of the Madison County Democratic Party. "Our last referendum in Madison County was decided by about five percent, so if you care about your community and you want your voice to be heard, you've got to get out there and vote."

The Madison County School Superintendent race will go to a runoff on July 15.

A very humid air mass remains parked over Alabama Wednesday night and this will lead to some more patchy fog for the start of the day Thursday. I do think we will see a better coverage of scattered storms.
