BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC) -

Birmingham received poor marks on a recent study on the best cities in the U.S. for families.

The study, conducted by Wallethub.com, ranked Birmingham as 148 out of 150 cities, just above Miami and Detroit. Other Alabama cities fared better in the study. Mobile hit a ranking of 127 and Montgomery took a spot at 101. Huntsville took the highest ranking for an Alabama city with the 52 spot.

Cities were gauged on five criteria to get their ranking:

-Family activities and fun

-Health and safety

-Education and child care

-Affordability

-Socio-Economic Environment

The top cities on the list were Plano, TX; Sioux Falls, SD; Overland Park, KS; Fremont, CA; and Irvine, CA. Plano took the top spot in both the education and socio-economic categories.

Birmingham was noted in the study for also taking the 148 ranking as a city with one of the worst divorce rates, edging out Detroit and Cleveland.
