Fairview Farmers Market in Montgomery likely to stay open

MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) -

WSFA 12 News has learned Fairview Farmers Market in Montgomery is likely to stay open.

Brett Hall with the Alabama Department of Agriculture and Industries says there has been a meeting with state and local officials, and matters are being resolved to likely keep the market on West Fairview Avenue from closing.

A new company has been formed to run the operation, and they feel confident this will all come together, Hall said. They hope to have a final resolution in the next few days.

Alabama State University announced in April it was ending it's lease with the Alabama Department of Agriculture. ASU's College of Business Administration has managed the farmers market since 2011.

The market has provided a place for low income residents in the area and seniors to buy fresh produce.
