Birmingham has Do Dah Day and now Tuscaloosa is gathering its furry friends for the inaugural Bark in the Park.
The event will be held at the Will May Dog Park, located at Sokol Park, Saturday, May 17 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. The event is free but donations are welcome to benefit the park, which is named for a young boy killed in a hunting accident. May was known for his love of animals.
"We just want to bring all the dog community together in one place and see what happens," realtor Jack Ryan said.
The Tuscaloosa Association of Realtors organized the event.
"Will would probably have been amazed that folks would come together, especially in his name," Ryan said. "Everyone we've gone to has known the Mays or knew Will and has offered real generous support to us."
The first 200 attendees will receive free "WAG" bags and there will be several activities including Paws on Parade, a beauty contest, a blessing of the dogs, and vendors. Photographers will also be on hand to capture photos for a Tuscaloosa pet calendar.
