Body identified after being found in wooded area

TALLASSEE, AL (WSFA) -

Officials in Tallassee are identifying the body, found earlier this week on Wall Street, as 43-year-old Charlie Bernard Simmons.

The Elmore County Coroner's office believes the body found in a wooded area behind residential houses in the Wall Street Community Wednesday night had been there for four or five days. The cause of death is still unknown.

Tallassee Police Chief Jimmy Rodgers said his office is conducting a death investigation after a resident located the body around 5:30 p.m. while taking a walk.

If you know anything about the case, contact Tallassee Police at 283-6586 or the secret witness line at 283-3683.
