(RNN) - Larry Wilmore, a fixture on The Daily Show with Jon Stewart, will fill the Comedy Central time slot left open when Stephen Colbert leaves to host The Late Show on CBS.
Wilmore, 52, is known as the "senior black correspondent" on The Daily Show, which he has been part of since 2006. He will headline his own show titled The Minority Report with Larry Wilmore to debut in January.
Playing off his role on The Daily Show, Comedy Central President Michele Ganeless said Wilmore's program would be a comedic discussion of pertinent issues from a minority point of view.
"I'm beyond excited to have this chance to continue my relationships with Comedy Central and the brilliant Jon Stewart," Wilmore said in an interview with Hollywood Reporter. "I love the city of New York and promise to only wear my Lakers T-shirts when I'm layering."
