Shelby police arrest boyfriend of teen killed in shooting

SHELBY, NC (FOX Carolina) -

Police in Shelby said a teen was killed in an early morning shooting, and her boyfriend was charged with her death.

Officers said while they were en route to an address on Holder Drive for a possible armed robbery involving a shooting, they were flagged down on Broad Street by a male who stated that a female inside his vehicle had been shot on Holder Drive.

Officers said they found a 17-year-old girl inside the vehicle with a single gunshot wound, and said she was pronounced dead at the scene.

Officers said the victim has been identified as Hannah Bickley of Lafayette Street.

After an extensive investigation, police arrested the victim's boyfriend, Aaron Byers. Byers was charged with murder, possession of a firearm by felon and attempted armed robbery. He remains at the Cleveland County Detention Center. Police said the investigation is ongoing.
