Trooper among 2 hurt in Interstate 24 crash

CLARKSVILLE, TN (WSMV) -

A state trooper was hurt in a crash that shut down eastbound Interstate 24 in Montgomery County for several hours.

The Tennessee Highway Patrol says the trooper was working a traffic accident near the Rossview Road exit and was returning to his patrol car when he turned around and saw another vehicle heading toward him.

Officials say he tried to get out of the way, but the vehicle clipped him before slamming into the driver's side of a tow truck.

The driver of the tow truck, 47-year-old James Walker Jr., was trapped inside and had to be extricated from the truck.

The trooper had some minor injuries but has since been treated and released from the hospital.

Walker was taken to Vanderbilt University Medical Center with critical injuries.

The scene was cleared by 3:15 a.m.
