A Selma man has pleaded guilty to manslaughter in a fatal crash in 2010.

Jonathon Peake, 36, was sentenced to 15 years, according to District Attorney Michael Jackson.

Jackson says Peake was driving under the influence when he crashed his vehicle head on into 58-year-old David Johnson's vehicle on July 17, 2010. Johnson, a Marion Junction resident, died at the scene.

The crash happened on Alabama Highway 22 near Dallas County Road 113 at about 7:50 p.m.

"This was a tragic situation that never should have happened. Driving while intoxicated is always dangerous," Jackson said.

According to court documents, a toxicology report showed Peake's blood alcohol content at the time of the crash was .18%, which exceeds the legal limit.
