Blazers split doubleheader; Townsend picks up 450th win

SAN ANTONIO, Texas – UAB (30-24, 14-8 C-USA) split a doubleheader with the UTSA Roadrunners (24-29, 10-13 C-USA), giving head coach Marla Townsend and the program win No. 450 as the Blazers dropped game one, 6-3 in its 11th extra-inning game, but rebounded with a strong 6-1 win in game two at Roadrunner Field on Saturday in San Antonio.
Caitlin Attfield totaled four hits on the day to move into sole possession of first for hits in a single season at 78, while the Blazers as a team inched closer to the home run record of 53 in a single season, now with 51 after hitting two on Saturday. The win in game two pushed UAB to its fifth-straight 30-win season and eighth overall.
Attfield went 2-for-4 in game one, while Mary Warren, Heather Pearson, Amy Dennis and Hayley Davis all had a hit. Pearson and Davis both had solo shots for an RBI each. Pearson also drew a walk and moved into a tie for second for most walks in a single season, before taking sole possession of second in game two.
Leigh Streetman threw 7.1 innings in the start and allowed five earned runs on six hits, while striking out 10 and allowing three walks.
Megan McGrath and Attfield each finished with two hits in game two. Pearson finished with two RBI, while Megan McGrath had three RBI for the Blazers in game two. Lannah Campbell tossed the complete game in game two and moved to 12-9 on the season, allowing just three hits and one unearned run. She struck out six and allowed just one walk.
The two teams will meet in a crucial Conference USA Sunday at noon from Roadrunner Field in the Blazers' regular-season finale.
