Neighborhood on lookout for stranger who chased teen

A Williamson County neighborhood is on alert on Thursday night after a teen reported a scary encounter with a stranger on Stonebridge Park Drive.

"It's terrifying thinking you can't let your children run in the front yard to play or shoot baskets because someone might take them," said neighbor Blair McEvoy.

For McEvoy, Thursday was almost another perfect afternoon with children Liddy and Christopher. Instead of just watching how high her kids swing or making sure they make it across the monkey bars, McEvoy had a much bigger worry.

"It's scary," said McEvoy. "You wonder if they are safe in the backyard. If this man was willing to get out and chase, what else would he do?"

On Wednesday evening at 6:45, a family said their teenage daughter was running near the clubhouse on Stonebridge Park Drive when a truck parked in the middle of the street and a man stepped out. The family said he suddenly charged at the teen, and she raced down the sidewalk, veered off and went tearing through the brush between houses to get away.

"Last night, some of the neighbors started emailing each other saying this little girl had been chased, and it was alarming," said McEvoy.

The parents of the teen asked to remain anonymous but did tell Channel 4 their daughter is shaken and they're just glad she was athletic enough to get away so fast. The Williamson County Sheriff's Department is now on the lookout for a man in his early 30s to 40s driving an older model gold pickup truck.

"We can all warn our children which we've never had to do before here and be on the lookout for the car," said McEvoy.

McEvoy said this scare isn't keeping her family from a spring day on the swing set, but she said she's watching Liddy and Christopher more closely than ever before.

"Kids are always in the neighborhood," said McEvoy. "You kinda move out here cause you think it's safer. It shows you that it can happen everywhere."
